Burnsville High Marks Bittersweet Milestone at 2012 Graduation
An undercurrent of loss ran through graduation on Thursday as students remembered the departed among their ranks.
Burnsville High's Class of 2012 has a motto: "As long as we have memories, yesterday remains. As long as we have hope, tomorrow awaits."
Thursday, the 699 students of the Class of 2012 lived their motto to the letter—expressing hope for a bright future while remembering the fallen among them.

"I want you to remember the classmate, teammate and friend that we all lost two years ago who would have loved to be with us here today," said Hayley Ohama, a senior class officer and speaker at commencement. "My fellow classmates, remember this day. This day we start a whole new chapter."
Ohama was referring to classmate Man Mai who died during the Class of 2012's sophomore year. Students in the Class of 2012 likely also recall the death of Tejas Malakapalli, a 15-year-old Metcalf Junior High student who was killed after being hit by a car in May 2010. More recently, the BHS student body has mourned the death of , who was killed in a moped accident in Savage last month.
