Burnsville Man Killed Running Across Highway 13

Authorities say a Burnsville man was killed Sunday while running across Highway 13.

One man was killed in Burnsville Sunday after trying to cross Highway 13, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. A Dodge Ram was westbound in the left lane on Highway 13 and struck the pedestrian as he was running southbound across traffic at Washburn Avenue.

The pedestrian, identified as Juan Morales-Castro, 45, of Burnsville, was killed.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, Shawn Jacob Notermann, 35, of Shakopee, was not injured in the incident. Road conditions were reported as dry.

Pedestrian deaths

Pedestrian deaths climbed in 2016 to 60 fatalities compared with a final figure of 41 in 2015. This is the highest number of pedestrian deaths since 1991 and a 50 percent increase in fatalities in the past five years, according to the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety.
