Burnsville Worker Blew $4,800 On Goods Charged To City Card: Cops

Police say Kelly Jo Hansen-Mundahl purchased an Xbox and a Ninja blender with her Burnsville city credit card.

BURNSVILLE, MN — A Burnsville city employee accused of racking up $4,800 in unauthorized purchases on her city-issued credit card to buy gift cards and other items faces felony charges, Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said Thursday.

Kelly Jo Hansen-Mundahl, 44, of Prior Lake, has been charged with felony theft and misconduct in connection with the use of the city credit card.

Authorities accuse Hansen-Mundahl of forging documents and using the credit card to purchase gift cards, an XBox, and a Ninja blender, She worked as a recreational supervisor for the city of Burnsville but resigned after the investigation began.

According to police, Hansen-Mundahl was issued a Burnsville city credit card in her name to make purchases for city-sponsored events. Police said they later found an Xbox and Ninja blender at Hansen-Mundahl’s home.

The investigation also revealed emergency withdrawals from Hansen-Mundahl’s deferred compensation plan occurred in 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2017. These withdrawal forms contained the signature of the city’s human resources coordinator, who denied signing these forms.

“The theft of any amount of public funds is a felony under Minnesota law,” Backstrom said in a statement.

Hansen-Mundahl was charged by summons and is scheduled to make her first appearance in court in the next month.
