Diabetes Prevention And Control Alliance And The Y Host “Seniors Tell Diabetes Not Me” Week, June 17 – 22

A Diabetes screening event will be held Saturday, June 22, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.: MN Valley Family YMCA Burnsville, 13850 Portland Ave., Burnsville, Minnesota, 55337.
The Diabetes Prevention and Control Alliance (DPCA) is supporting the YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) in its efforts to make the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program available at no cost to Medicare part A or B beneficiaries in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.
This project, made possible by funding received by Y-USA from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center, marks the first time this evidence-based program is being provided at no cost for qualifying seniors through Medicare.

DPCA and Y staff will be on site to evaluate seniors’ risk of developing type 2 diabetes, educate them on the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program in their community, and enroll qualifying participants into the program.
For seniors to qualify for the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program at no additional cost, they must receive Medicare parts A or B, be overweight, and have a prediabetes qualifying blood glucose test result 1.
