Duluth Festival Opera’s Pocahontas

A new opera by award-winning Burnsville composer, Linda Tutas Haugen and author Joan Vail Thorne.

Commissioned for the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, VA, this hauntingly beautiful musical drama recounts the fascinating life of Pocahontas, the enigmatic Algonquian princess.

Using the facts of history to tell her real story, some mistakenly compare this work to that of the popular Disney film of the same name, but there is no similarity. The opera is a work of imagination that celebrates her life, debunking the popular myths and half-truths that surround her name. This 90-minute music-theater piece was composed by Burnsville resident Linda Tutas Haugen and will be performed by the Duluth Festival Opera. The cast also includes Native American musicians and dancers and the production will be in English.
