Ex-Burnsville Teacher Sentenced For Sex With 16-Year-Old Student
On top of jail time, the 30-year-old was ordered to pay restitution and register as a predatory offender.

BURNSVILLE, MN — Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Erik Michael Akervik, 30, of Burnsville, was sentenced Thursday in connection with having sex with a 16-year-old student.
Akervik was placed on probation for a period of 15 years and sentenced to 60 days jail commencing June 28. He is also required to serve an additional 30 days of jail each year he’s on probation, which may be converted to electronic home monitoring starting in 2024.
At the time of these acts, Akervik was a teacher at Burnsville High School. Akervik pled guilty March 5 to one count of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree.

As part of the sentence, Akervik was ordered to pay restitution and register as a predatory offender.
"Sexual abuse of a student by a teacher is deplorable conduct and we are pleased that Mr. Akervik has been held accountable for his actions," Backstrom said in a statement.

The charge of electronic solicitation of a child (a felony) was severed by the court and is set for jury trial July 9.
