Burnsville attorney gets state appointment
Stephen Fiebiger, a Burnsville civil litigation attorney, has been named by Gov. Mark Dayton to the state Merit System Council effective June 30. His term will expire Jan. 5, 2015. The state Merit System Council hears personnel appeals, sets policy for administration of examinations, reviews classification and compensation plans and proposed rule changes. The council consists of three members appointed by the governor.
Vote now, if you can’t vote later
If you’re unable to get to your voting place on July 26, but still want to cast your ballot for one of the nine candidates seeking to fill the vacant city council seat, now’s the time to act.
You can vote absentee at the Burnsville City Hall through July 25. Hours are 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.; Saturday July 23; and 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday July 25. To request an absentee ballot application be sent by mail, call 952-895-4433.

According to the Secretary of State, here are the circumstances that make you “legit” to vote absentee:

- absence from your precinct;
- illness or disability;
- serving as an election judge in another precinct;
- religious discipline or observance of religious holiday; or
- eligible emergency declared by the governor or quarantine declared by the federal or state government.
Deer hunt in city dates and locations to be set
The city plans to hold a fall hunt as part of an effort to manage its deer population. The dates and times are to be approved during the July 5 Burnsville City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. in city hall. In 2010, the city sponsored an archery deer hunt in Kelleher Park during October and November. The Burnsville Police Department conducted a sharpshooting hunt in the winter at Cliff Fen Park, Black Dog Park, and at the city compost site. Through those efforts, 40 deer were culled.The council will also consider:·
- Approval of wine and 3.2 percent on-sale liquor license for Davone Halsana (Mekong River) at 1916 E. Hwy. 13;
- An amendment to the Burnsville City Code concerning changeable copy signs;
- Approval for an additional freestanding and wall signage for a Best Buy store to be located at 14141 Aldrich Avenue South; and
- Amendments to the Planned Unit Development Agreement.
- Replacement of Black Dog Road West Bridge.
BPAC commission to review center’s 2012 business plan
The commission responsible for making recommendations to the Burnsville City Council on operations of the Burnsville Performing Arts Center will consider the facility’s 2012 operating budget and business plan during its July 6 meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the BPA.
New members to the BPAC Commission will be sworn in. Serving terms ending June 2014 are Steve Preus, Ken Gay and Angie Gislason. Steve Vonderharr was appointed to a term ending June 2013.
Other agenda items include election of officers and VenuWorks (BPAC operators) response to City Council recommendations.
