Follow Franken: A Tour through the Burnsville Ice Center

Friday, city officials led U.S. Senator Al Franken through the bowels of the Burnsville Ice Center, which recently underwent a $5 million retrofit.

In 2010, the city undertook a major overhaul of its Ice Center, which dates to 1972. The purpose was to make the facility more energy efficient by upgrading the lighting system and installing a geothermal heating and cooling system. The $5 million project used $347,000 in federal funds through the economic stimulus package. A little less than a year later, Senator Al Franken came to Burnsville to see the results for himself.
