EAGAN, MN — The Minnesota Vikings have named Kyler Murray their starting quarterback, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Murray, a former No. 1 overall pick, signed a one year contract with the Vikings in March after the Arizona Cardinals released him.

He beat out J.J. McCarthy, Minnesota's 2024 first round pick, for the job during training camp.

McCarthy started 10 games for the Vikings in 2025 as a rookie but struggled with consistency and injuries, throwing 12 interceptions against 11 touchdowns.

Murray brings seven seasons of NFL starting experience and two Pro Bowl selections, though he appeared in just five games last season while recovering from a foot injury.

Head coach Kevin O'Connell had said the competition would play out through training camp and into the preseason.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
