McConnell will receive her award along with 10 other women who have risen to the top of large corporations, founded and grown small businesses, and local business owners who have contributed to the community in their work and also countless volunteer efforts.

The women were nominated through an open nomination process and then selected by a panel of judges from the Dakota County Tribune and the Dakota County Technical College Foundation. They were selected based on their contributions to business and the community.

When asked how she changed her business model or services in the current economy, McConnell replied, “While we’re not growing at my projected pace, our model is the same. We intend to grow one customer at a time by doing the right thing. While it might be tempting to lower our costs by offering lower quality parts and service, I am not willing to let my guiding principal be compromised: honest and high quality auto repair services.

McConnell’s advice to other women professionals?

“Proactively maintain your vehicle because mobility means freedom! Also, support your “sisters” who own business. I love it when my female customers appreciate the services of my business.  They notice the important little things (like being treated with respect and honesty.) Seek out women-owned businesses and support them. Let’s give each other an attaGIRL to celebrate our successes like this very important award allows us to do.
