April is Financial Literacy Month; Minnesota Department of Commerce Holds Outreach Events
Rep. Laurie Halverson updates constituents on events for Financial Literacy Month.

Saving, spending, and sharing — managing money is a top priority for Minnesota families. April is Financial Literacy Month in Minnesota. Finances can be complicated and many Minnesotans lack the knowledge to help them with things like budgeting, loans, credit cards, and saving for college. More frightening, there are a number of financial scams, payday loans, and predatory lending schemes that victimize unsuspecting people. Learning more about your finances and making informed decisions can be the difference between a struggling family and a thriving one.
Across the state, the Minnesota Department of Commerce has nearly 40 outreach events planned throughout April featuring topics such as teaching children about financial issues, predatory lending, and senior financial issues.
Our Eagan credit unions are also participating in Financial Literacy Month. Postal Credit Union is promoting Youth Saving Challenge through their "Stache your cash" campaign (https://www.postalcu.org/youth-savings), which is part of National Youth Savings Challenge week. They are doing a promotion for youth who deposit money in the month of April. They also have some special promotions for youth who open accounts during the month of April and giveaways.

City & County Credit Union is participating in the Credit Union National Association's Youth Week themed 'Savings Sleuth'. They are giving away $100 from the NCUA and a Season Pass to Como Town Amusement Park so be sure to stop in at the Eagan branch and participate in this contest.
More information about Financial Literacy Month, including a calendar of events and tips for Minnesota consumers can be found on the Minnesota Department of Commerce website.
