BLOG: Intern Megan—Signing Off!
As Intern Megan heads off to college, she talks about experience at the chamber, and why someone should become an intern.
I began interning for the DCR chamber last December as a part of my “mentor” course at my high school. What was originally supposed to be a three month mentorship has turned into a 9 month internship. I have had the BEST experience interning for the DCR chamber. I have learned SO MUCH about what it means to be a professional in the work place, and had tons of fun while doing it. I could not have asked for better mentors than Jessy and Ruthe. They both have such positive, upbeat attitudes, and they made it such a joy to come into work every
day. I can only hope that when I am job searching in the future, I will find a job I love as much as this one!
Here at the chamber, my main focus was on social media marketing. (See blog “What Role does Social Media have in Business?”) I started with Facebook , then moved on to include Twitter, Pinterest, and of course the Patch blog:). My goal was to connect with as many of our members, as well as perspective members as possible through these different social media platforms, as possible. As a part of my social media project, we made a Chamber music video, and that was absolutely my favorite chamber memory! We had a great time writing our rap, filming, and editing and I would highly encourage you to check out both of our videos if you haven’t already! Click here to watch the video. Social media marketing is a growing field, and is becoming extremely popular with huge corporations, as well as small businesses. Hopefully I can take the skills I learned here, and carry them with me to whatever career I choose.
Moving forward, I will be starting a whole new chapter of my life at the College of
St. Benedict. While I am so excited to get started, I am really going to miss all the people I have met here at the chamber. Now that the interns are all going off to college, the chamber will be looking for another energetic, upbeat person to fill our places. I cannot even begin to say how much I have gained through my time here, and I would absolutely recommend becoming an intern. As a chamber intern you will attend tons of events and meet so many other business people that have the potential to be GREAT contacts to have in the future. You will also gain experience in different elements of business such as customer service, sales, marketing, and even event planning. I would strongly encourage anyone interested to contact the chamber and set up an interview.
It has been a blast writing for the Patch Blog, and I’m certainly going to miss it. It’s been an amazing nine months, but I’m so excited to see what the future has in store. Thanks for reading :)
