Students Learn Life Skills With Birthday Bags
Special education students at Cedar School are hoping to increase the number of birthday bags they assemble for Cheerful Givers.
"It's such a great experience and is teaching our students skills about focusing and following directions. Plus the kids enjoy it" commented Brenda Szoka, Special Education Teacher at the Cedar Alternative Center School in Eagan. For about an hour each day at the Sun (Students with Unique Needs) Program, students, ages 13-20, assemble about 100 toy-filled birthday bags for Cheerful Givers.
Everyone is given an opportunity to choose which task they would like to do, from adding birthday stickers to bags, to filling the bags with an assortment of toys, or adding the important ribbon. Birthday bags are then carefully counted and
supplies are stored for the next day's activities. Because it's such a successful program, both students and teachers would like to increase the amount of birthday bags they are assembling. To make that happen, Cheerful Givers is looking for businesses, organizations or individuals who might consider sponsoring this project with funding to purchase the needed items.
