Eagan City Councilmember Gary Hansen has filed for re-election. In his filing announcement, he stated, &ldquo;During my Council tenure, Eagan has been recognized for local government innovation, prudent fiscal management, budget transparency, and citizen engagement. I&rsquo;m looking forward to the opportunity to continue serving on behalf of the residents and businesses of Eagan and building on that legacy.
&ldquo;I have represented Eagan in the regional transportation and transit decision-making process, ensuring that our taxpayers get their fair share of state and federal funding for operations and infrastructure. I&rsquo;ve demonstrated regional leadership as Minnesota Valley Transit Authority and Suburban Transit Association (STA) Board chair, Association of Metropolitan Municipalities (Metro Cities) president, League of Minnesota Cities (LMC) Board member, and MN Cities Climate Coalition member. I am STA&rsquo;s representative on the regional Transportation Advisory Board, which coordinates planning and funding of transportation and transit initiatives with the Metropolitan Council. I also serve on the National League of Cities Transportation and Infrastructure Federal Advocacy Committee. I&rsquo;m actively engaged in legislative policy development in the interest of municipalities on Metro Cities and LMC legislative policy committees.&rdquo;
First elected in 2008, Councilmember Hansen previously served on and chaired the Eagan and Dakota County Planning Commissions. He is a charter member of the Eagan Kick-Start Rotary Club. A JD degree graduate of Mitchell Hamline School of Law, he is a commercial arbitrator and is active in the Minnesota State Bar Association. He and his wife Kathy, a retired Eagan High School teacher, are 42-year Eagan residents.

End in Mind Hosts Three Broadcast Legends to Explore Mortality, Meaning, and Living Fully 
MINNETONKA, Minn. — What does it mean to live fully while knowing life is finite? That question will be at the heart of “Embracing Mortality: A Conversation with Shelby, Miles &amp; Wurzer,” an evening of reflection, storytelling, and connection hosted by the End in Mind Project. It will take place on Thursday, June 25, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., both <a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/embracing-mortality-a-conversation-with-shelby-miles-wurzer-in-person-tickets-1989925573959" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">in person at Bet Shalom Synagogue</a> in Minnetonka and <a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/embracing-mortality-a-conversation-with-shelby-miles-wurzer-virtual-tickets-1990647266561" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">virtually</a>. 

The conversation will bring together three of Minnesota’s most respected voices in journalism: Don Shelby, Pat Miles, and Cathy Wurzer. 

For decades, these veteran broadcast journalists have helped Minnesotans make sense of life’s biggest moments. Now, they will turn their attention to a subject that touches every human life yet is rarely discussed openly: mortality. 

Moderated by Wurzer, founder of End in Mind and longtime MPR News host, the evening will explore how embracing our eventual mortality can deepen our appreciation for life, strengthen our relationships, and clarify what matters most. The discussion will feature personal stories, reflections on loss and resilience, and insights gained through decades of reporting on the human experience. 

Shelby, a former WCCO-TV anchor and reporter, spent 50 years covering major news events around the world and remains one of Minnesota’s most recognizable journalists. 
 Miles, a former WCCO-TV reporter and anchor, brings a deeply personal perspective shaped by the death of her husband. She is the co-author of Before All Is Said and Done, a book that explores grief, widowhood, end-of-life preparation, and the practical and emotional realities of loss. 


Together, the three journalists will examine what it means to accept life’s impermanence, navigate grief, find meaning, and live with greater purpose. About the End in Mind Project: Founded by Wurzer, End in Mind empowers people to proactively prepare for their death so they can live more fearless, intentional lives today. Through programs, conversations, and educational resources, the nonprofit encourages people to explore their fears around death and dying while reimagining what it means to live fully at every stage of life.
