Going Up: Eagan's Tax Levy to Increase 4.2 Percent
The city portion of the property tax for the average homestead in Eagan is $948. This is 19 percent below the 18-city average of $1,131.

The Eagan City Council approved the next year's budget and certified the 2017 levy at its Dec. 6 meeting. Here are a few key takeaways from the new budget.
Where does Eagan property tax go?
- 31 percent of your tax bill goes to the city of Eagan.
- 23 percent goes to Dakota County
- 42 percent goes to schools (in ISD 196)
- 4 percent other

2017 city general fund expenditures
- 48 percent public safety
- 22 percent general government
- 15 percent parks and recreation
- 12 percent public works
- 3 percent government building

The estimated property taxes (city portion only) on the average value homestead property in Eagan will go up 0.3 percent for 2017, according to a news release.
