Eagan Man Allegedly Strangles Pregnant Girlfriend

A woman was allegedly strangled during an argument with her boyfriend.

A 20-year-old Eagan man has been charged in Hennepin County court with felony domestic assault by strangulation after allegedly strangling his girlfriend, who is three months pregnant, in his car on April 12.

Calvonzo Daylon Burnett, Jr. admitted to arguing with his girlfriend and strangling her, but said he let go when she said she couldn't breathe, police said. Burnett faces up to three years in prison and/or $5,000 in fines. In addition to the felony charge, he received an order of detention.

Police responded to a call at Burnett's girlfriend's house in Bloomington. Burnett's girlfriend was visibly upset when police arrived and she had markings on the left side of her neck and scratches under her chin, according to police.

The woman told police she and Burnett were arguing in his car while parked outside of her home. She believed he had been cheating on her and threw a glass of water on him, police said. He allegedly grabbed her around the neck with both hands and strangled her, police said.

The woman could not breathe and almost passed out. Once he quit choking her, he pushed her out of the car and sped off, police said.
