Eagan's Election Filing Period Closes on Tuesday

Two Eagan City Council seats are up for election this year.

Tuesday is the last day to file for local political offices in Eagan. The 2012 election filing period closes at 5 p.m. this afternoon.

Two seats, held by incumbents Cyndee Fields and Meg Tilley, are up for election during the 2012 election cycle. Councilors serve four-year terms.

Both Fields and Tilley have filed for re-election. Candidates have until 5 p.m. on June 7 to withdraw from the filing. The general election will be held on Nov. 6.

In order to file for a seat on the council, a candidate must be eligible to vote in Minnesota, be at least 21 years of age upon assuming office and maintained residence in the city for at least 30 days prior to the election, among other requirements. Candidates must fill out a filing form provided by the city and pay a $5 filing fee. Copies of the form are available at the Eagan City Clerk's office in .
