Fields, Tilley Will Run Unopposed in General Election
Filing for municipal, county, state and federal elections closed Tuesday.

The race for Eagan City Council was shortened quite a bit Tuesday afternoon with the news that councilors and will again be running unopposed.
The filing period for municipal, county, state and federal offices closed at 5 p.m. Tuesday. And just like in 2008, no resident filed to unseat council incumbents Fields and Tilley in the general election.

Barring a successful write-in campaign in the Nov. 6 general election, each will be sworn in for a fourth four-year term in January.
During Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, poked fun at Fields and Tilley by not allowing them to make motions or be recognized during most of the 45-minute meeting. He said he and councilors Paul Bakken and Gary Hansen were “doubling irritated” that the pair was running unopposed again.

“But, it could be that they have the least desirable jobs in the city of Eagan, primarily because having to work with the three [other members],” he said.
Because only one candidate filed for each open seat, the city will not conduct a primary election for council on Aug. 14.
The four-year terms of Maguire, Bakken and Hansen expire in 2014.
DAKOTA COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
District 3 County Commissioner , who represents most of Eagan on the Dakota County Board of Commissioners, will be unopposed in his race for a third four-year term.
In District 2, which includes the southeast portion of Eagan, incumbent Nancy Schouweiler will face Inver Grove Heights City Councilor Bill Klein in a repeat of the 2010 election. Schouweiler, an Inver Grove Heights resident who has served on the board since 1999, won that election by 755 votes.
MINNESOTA LEGISLATURE
• Senate District 51—Republican will face the DFLer in the general election.
• House District 51A—Sandra Masin will meet Milton Walden in the DFL primary. The winner will face Republican in the general election.
• House District 51B—Republican Doug Wardlow will face DFLer in the general election.
