Grace shines through: Eagan church aglow in new color

Eagan’s Lexington Avenue is already known to many residents as “Art Avenue”—as it is home to the Eagan Art House and two new public sculptures visible to all who walk or drive the road between Diffley and Wescott. Now, just a half mile north, another new major art commission was recently unveiled which is enriching the lives of a local congregation, All Saints Lutheran Church.

Inspired by All Saints Church’s 25th anniversary milestone last year, Eagan residents and ASLC members, Steve and Kimberly Wolff, proposed to design and construct six stained glass panels for the All Saints sanctuary.

“We thought that it would be fitting for the congregation of All Saints Lutheran to move forward into the next 25 years with a gift celebrating God’s Grace through light and color”, said Kimberly Wolff.

The six colorful windows span over 35 feet along the west wall of the sanctuary, located at the intersection of Lexington and Wescott Drive. The artists estimate that over 240 total hours were invested in the design, construction, and installation of all six stained glass windows.

Alpha and Omega symbols serve as bookends to the panels. An iridescent golden ribbon flows though each of the six windows, connecting them into one horizontal design.

Symbols featured elsewhere within the sanctuary were also incorporated into the intricate leaded glass panels. The colors of the glass represent seasonal colors of the church calendar, while varieties of texture embedded in the glass make each piece unique.

The windows were formally dedicated by Pastor Charles Trittin on Sunday, Sept 21st, 2014. Pastor Trittin remarked: “What an incredible gift! Kim and Steve’s talent and love for God shines through the beautiful windows. All Saints continues to be blessed by gracious and faithful members. “

All Saints Lutheran Church was established in Eagan in 1988, and the congregation built the current sanctuary on the corner of Lexington Avenue South and Wescott Drive that same year. The congregation is active in the community through such outreach as 360 Communities, Open Door, Feed My Starving Children, Youth Mission Trips, ELCA World Hunger and Disaster Relief, and Mt. Calvary Community Meals. Worship services are held on Sundays at 8:30 and 10:30am, as well as Wednesdays at 7:00pm
