Halverson Files for House Race in District 51B

Community activist Laurie Halverson made her challenge to incumbent Rep. Doug Wardlow in District 51B official on Wednesday.

Eagan Advisory Parks and Recreation Committee member and Eagan Foundation volunteer Laurie Halverson filed her candidacy for Minnesota House District 51B yesterday.

Halverson and her family appeared at the Office of the Secretary of State today to officially launch her campaign, according to a statement issued by the candidate. Halverson received the DFL endorsement earlier this year at the endorsement convention in Eagan.

“Like most Minnesotans, I’m frustrated with the current dysfunction in our
Legislature. I’m running because I know that we can do better,” Halverson wrote in the press release. "We need representatives who will go to work on the issues that matter most to Minnesotans, and we need leaders who will put principles over politics and work together to get the job done."

Halverson, who is a stay-at-home parent, was previously employed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Eagan. She holds a degree in Political Science from St. Catherine University in St. Paul, and she attended graduate school at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Halverson is a volunteer Sunday school teacher and a member of the League of Women Voters of Minnesota and the Citizens League, the press release said.

“Eagan residents deserve results from their elected officials. Minnesotans can’t get away with failing to perform at their jobs so why should our representatives?" said Halverson.
