Julia reports in with her last official blog as an Eagan Funfest Ambassador

Being an Eagan Funfest Ambassador has helped to enhance my confidence, contributions, and connections. It’s hard to believe that I am already writing my last blog, so I would like to recognize some of the many people, places and experiences that have nurtured me along the way.

I have been influenced by many events and they have taught me good qualities that will carry me out through my life. First, I grew stronger talking to people of all ages. I have learned how to introduce myself and explain who I am. I have been taught to keep commitments, and keep smiling, even if my mouth twitches during a parade. I can proudly state that I have volunteered more that I thought was humanly possible. In that, I have changed the world in small ways, whether it was bringing a smile to someones face or complimenting a little girl on how I loved her art. I believe that anyone can do that. Crown and gown, or not. Making a good impact was my choice, and this program gently tugged me along in the right direction.  Anyone who tries can achieve great satisfaction in not only their own lives, but the lives of others by getting out in the community.

There are many experiences I have had fun at throughout the year that have helped bring out others’ smiles. Here’s some of my favorites. The winter holiday program at Holtz Farm where I enjoyed serving hot apple cider and coffee, counting the people coming in, and taking pictures for families. This event was so family friendly and fun I was glad to be there. Another event I cherished was painting bowls for the Empty Bowls Fundraiser for The Open Door foodshelf.  It was fun to kick back and take some time doing what I love, art. I wish I could’ve seen the person who received my flower bowl. Adding to that, I had lots of fun at the Firemen's Ice Cream Social. I got to help blow up balloons for the clown that was making them into cute animals of all shapes and sizes. I also liked seeing the kids smiling faces when they received their beautiful balloons.

I have had many experiences developing my strengths. I had to talk to people from babies to elders, even Mayor Maguire!  This helped me find my inner confidence and taught me how important it is to have poise. There were many people who coached me on the road to success including Karen Dare, she chaperones us a lot and keeps our craziness under control. Tom and Mike, the Ferber brothers, are the backbone of the program, without them, it would be chaos. And Cory Hilden, who keeps us dressed right and looking pretty. I would also like to give a shoutout to my sponsor, Fusion Martial Arts, for helping me gain strength and confidence in my abilities. They support and help me become a better person, day to day.   It’s great to know I can be myself from wearing my blackbelt to wearing a gown.

I know this is sadly my last blog but I could not be anymore grateful for the amazing year I have had. I will miss this great experience. Just remember to be yourself, for that is what truly matters. This program, has brought out the best in me, and I have learned a great deal. Thank you all.
