Nearly Half of Eagan Voters May See Change in Voting Location This Fall

The polling locations for a number of Eagan precincts are changing, thanks to statewide redistricting.

Editor's Note: The following is a press release from the city of Eagan.

Approximately 40 percent of Eagan’s registered voters could see a change in voting locations this year because of statewide redistricting which, by law, occurs every 10 years following the Census.

In response to a court ordered statewide plan, local boundaries, and in some cases voting locations, in 15 of Eagan’s 20 precincts needed to change. That is one fewer precinct than Eagan had in the last election.

“We saw big changes in western Eagan precincts because Interstate 35E was used by the Court as the dividing line between legislative boundaries instead of the previously used Pilot Knob Road,” says Eagan City Clerk Christina Scipioni. “Also, for some voters, there are three new polling places at the new on Yankee Doodle Road, at the , and at the ,” said Scipioni.

The Eagan City Council recently approved the final tweaks to the new precinct map. The map reflects new precinct numbers and shows precinct boundaries and polling place locations. Residents should check the Minnesota Secretary of State’s online Polling Place Finder in mid-May to determine where they vote on election day. Dakota County will mail postcards in mid-July to registered voters whose polling places have changed. Voter registration records are maintained by county election staff and the Secretary of State’s office.

The message is clear, says Eagan City Administrator Tom Hedges.

“Your precinct may have changed for the first time in a decade and you need to check online with the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office to verify whether your voting location has stayed the same or changed.”

Highlights of the voting location changes include:
