EAGAN, MN — The race between Democratic Sen. Tina Smith and Republican Jason Lewis is tighter than ever.

According to RealClearPolitics, it's now considered a "toss up." A recent Emerson poll shows Smith up by just three points.

"@realDonaldTrump and I will flip Minnesota red in 2020," Lewis tweeted Wednesday. "Time to restore law and order, end the lockdowns, restore the economy, & get Greater MN (especially the Iron Range) moving again!"

Lewis recently hosted a "Back the Blue" town hall in Eagan, which featured Minneapolis police union head Bob Kroll as a guest speaker.

"After the riots in Minneapolis and St. Paul, I toured over a dozen businesses, most of them minority owned. Not one person said they wanted to defund the police—they all wanted more police," Lewis said at the event.

"Well you’re not going to get more police or restore law and order if you have elected officials like Senator Tina Smith who won’t back them. The first duty of government is to protect life, liberty and property, and yet the Democrats refuse to do it. If they can’t get this right, nothing else matters."

The Smith campaign recently attacked Lewis for questioning the competency of the United States Postal Service.

"Once again, Jason Lewis puts his partisan views ahead of what’s best for Minnesotans–and in this case it’s at the expense of people receiving the life-saving medication and prescriptions they need, taking part in our democracy by voting by mail, and participating in the 2020 Census," said Smith campaign manager Ryan Furlong in a news release.

"Sen. Smith will do anything she can to defend and protect the Postal Service so Minnesotans get access to the services and medications they need, as well as the ability to cast their ballot by mail. That’s why she demanded answers and action to address the unacceptable lapse in service. She says that the Postmaster General suspending changes isn’t enough when the damage has already been done. Sen. Smith is pushing for Postmaster General DeJoy to reverse the changes and protect the integrity of the Postal Service."

Smith and Lewis are scheduled to participate in debates in September and October.
