Standoff With Eagan Police Ends With One Dead

The standoff involving multiple agencies happened near the 1900 block of Seneca Road after police responded to a domestic assault call.

EAGAN, MN — One person is dead following a standoff that took place Tuesday night involving multiple law enforcement agencies. The standoff happened near the 1900 block of Seneca Road in Eagan, according to police.

At approximately 6 p.m. July 2, Eagan officers responded to a domestic assault involving a firearm. Police believe the suspect assaulted a woman in a car and fled. Officers located the suspect, who was still in possession of the firearm, and after a short foot pursuit to the location of the standoff, attempted for several hours to negotiate with him.

According to police, officers asked the man to put down his gun and follow their directions; however, shots were exchanged. The man was transported to Regions Hospital where he was pronounced dead. No officers were injured in the standoff.

Apple Valley, Bloomington, Burnsville, and Edina Police Departments, in addition to the Minnesota State Patrol, assisted with the incident. Some officers were placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard practice following officer involved shootings, Eagan police said. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation into the incident.
