Eagan Funfest Ambassador Makenzie Martin Recaps Busy Beginnings as an Ambassador

My name is Makenzie Martin and I am one of your 2016-2017 Eagan Funfest Ambassadors! I am an upcoming Junior at Eagan High School and am proudly sponsored by Mulcahy Heating and Plumbing Company.

It’s been a little over a month since I was crowned, and I still recall the day of coronation as if it was yesterday. Even though it was planned for later that evening, my day was solely focused on prepping. I can't even tell you how many times I ran around the house singing “It's coronation day,” as did Anna in Frozen. The night was full of excitement and lots of jitters. It was such a pleasure to see the amount of visiting royalty that came to meet and support us… I thought it was very interesting getting to mingle with them and hear the stories of how they were crowned! Later that evening, the girls and I had the opportunity to introduce ourselves along with answering a random fishbowl question. Luckily, they weren't trick questions and all of us did extremely well! When the moment arrived to announce the new ambassadors, all of us immediately grabbed each other's hands and hoped to hear our names called. When my name was called I was overjoyed and knew that this one moment would not only change the next year, but the rest of my life.

Throughout this past month, my fellow ambassadors and I have already met so many individuals throughout our community and visiting royalty, at all sorts of events. Some of these include: Market Fest volunteering, Aquatennial Coronation, Rosemount Leprechaun Days Parade and more. For almost all these events, we have a system set up to meet in advance for carpooling. As a sixteen year old, I often drive myself to meet for carpooling. With that being said, I couldn't tell you how many times I have gotten several glances with my crown on my head as I causally sing along to the radio… Today, however, my dad got to drive and tag along during Hudson's Pepper Fest Parade! Despite the harsh rain, it was a blast. During our parades, we are so fortunate that Mark’s Towing has given us the opportunity to use their flat bed trucks as our Parade vehicle. My ambassadors and I have sure gotten down the routine of decorating the truck to perfection! With our spare time, we also had the opportunity to talk with Hudson’s current royalty and their new candidates… It was fun getting to listen to their candidate process. I'm wishing them all the best of luck and hoping that the sun will come out tomorrow for their special coronation day.

With many months ahead of us, I'm so excited for what this year has to hold. And I couldn't be more thankful for the other three ambassadors I get to share it with!
