Water damaged phone - don't discard it yet!

If your water damaged cell phone, smart phone, or tablet won't turn on - don't throw it away, there is still hope!

Most of us have done it...a drip, drop, dribble, splash, spill... or even the dreaded kerplunk. Getting water, or any liquid, on your phone can cause a near heart attack and trigger lightning quick reflexes - the likes of which you did not know you possessed.

If you're lucky, and most of the times you are, a quick wipe of the water and test of the phone reveals there is no cause for alarm. However, for the unfortunate instance in which your phone proves to be unresponsive...well, you find yourself being none too happy, to say the least.

If you've been on the unlucky side of that situation, most likely tried tossing your phone into a bag/jar of rice. This actually works surprisingly well - a quick search on Google for "water damage rice trick" will yield a number of solutions and success stories.

However, sometimes there is real damage done to the phone, and drying it out will not bring it back to life. At this point, you’ve most likely reserved to buying a new phone. Since you’re probably not up for a service contract renewal with Verizon, AT&T - or whomever you get your service from – you find yourself looking at prices upwards of $500 or more to replace your phone. Ouch!

But wait, there is hope! We've found that roughly 50% of phones inoperable due to water damage can be completely repaired, working just as good as new. The cost to repair a water damaged phone is not cheap – but it is usually 50-60% less than the cost of replacing your phone – so it is a bargain by that measure.

Due to the complexity of water damage, not every service provider will offer water damage repair service on cell phones, smart phones or mobile devices. So, before you head out the door, it is a good idea to make a few phone calls, or visit a couple websites first, just to make sure your trip is not wasted.
