5th Grade Math Masters Place High in Regionals

Teams from four EP elementary schools competed. Kerui Yang, from the Forest Hills team, placed first in the individual Fact Drill.

Congratulations to fifth grade Math Masters teams from Oak Point, Eden Lake (Team 1), Forest Hills and Prairie View elementary schools for their outstanding performances in regional competition on April 27 at Apple Valley. Of the 33 teams competing, Oak Point placed second, Eden Lake placed fourth and Prairie View placed seventh. And out of 158 competitors, Kerui Yang, from the Forest Hills team, placed first in the individual Fact Drill. The Forest Hills team placed 16th.

Members of the Oak Point team are: Lily Aaberg, Ahad Kaleem, Linus Lu, Katherine Sun, and Gemily Wang.  Individual placement awards were presented to: Gemily Wang second; Katherine Sun, fourth; and Linus Lu, 13th out of 158 kids. The members of this team also placed in the top 40 competitors in the Fact Drill section. The team is coached by Dechang Sun.

Members of the Eden Lake team are: Jack Engelbrekt, John Henry, Meghana Manepalli, Ava Masse, and Sean Woerner. Individual placement awards were presented to: John Henry,10th; and Ava Masse, 18th. In the Fact Drill, John placed fifth, and Meghana placed sixth out of 155 contestants. The team is coached by Colleen Finnegan and Harish Manepalli.

In addition to Kerui Yang, other members of the Forest Hills team are: Ethan Bley, Aubrey Connett, Andrew Steinman, and Abigail Thelen. The team is coached by Heather Bley and Jeff Thelen.

Members of the Prairie View team are: Jack Ekholm, Ellie Friel, Alicia Gee, Nathaniel Ludwig, Sofia Melchert, and Masha Volkova. In individual problem solving, Sofia placed 19th and Masha placed 20th. The team is coached by Christina Ludwig.
