Misleading attacks are more of the same and will not move our state forward

Yvonne Selcer asks for input on legislative issues.

I was disappointed to see a recent post about me which inaccurately represents my views on an education proposal to create a health insurance pool for educators. The author of the post, Mr. Smith, did not ask me how I was going to vote on the proposal or what my views are.  As it turns out, I oppose the legislation that he is attacking me for supporting and I will be voting "no." I believe the mandatory nature of the bill takes away our local control, and that our locally elected school board members, working with their teachers, should decide how to most effectively manage health care costs. I am frustrated that these lies are being spread as they were during the campaign, during which I had to file a formal complaint with the state.

As always, I invite you all to continue to discuss the serious issues that are before us:  jobs and the economy, education, and those issues that affect our Minnesota quality of life.  This is not the time to throw mud , regardless of the truth, for political gain.  This is the time to focus on working together to get things accomplished for our community.

I continue to work across the aisle with my colleagues, and have co-authored legislation with them to improve our economy and schools. I will continue to focus on the issues that residents bring to my attention through calls, letters, e-mails and at town hall and coffee meetings.

Already at the Capitol I have authored legislation to pay back the money we owe our schools, make strategic investments in education, provide property tax and renter relief, provide tax relief to our employers (average savings to employers will be $150.00 per employee, all together Minnesota employers will save $350 million dollars), expand the MnVest program which provides funding for our small and medium sized businesses, and bring Southwest Light Rail to our region.  These are just a few of the initiatives I have been involved in as we work to strengthen our economy, create jobs and move our state forward.

Please continue to watch for my updates, and provide me with your thoughts and views as we move forward.  Please contact me anytime with questions or comments at rep.yvonne.selcer@house.mn
