Arboretum AppleHouse

Just 1.5 miles west of the main Arboretum entrance on Highway 5, the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum AppleHouse is an iconic seasonal destination, featuring&nbsp;<a href="https://arb.umn.edu/AppleHouse/apples" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Minnesota-grown apples</a>, including varieties grown at the Arboretum’s nearby Horticultural Research Center.&nbsp;Many of the&nbsp;<a href="https://mnhardy.umn.edu/apples/varieties" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">University of Minnesota’s introduced apple varieties</a>&nbsp;are for sale, along with gourmet packaged foods, frozen pies, pastries, fudge, gifts and — in the fall — pumpkins, squash and gourds, also grown at the Arboretum. While supplies last, the AppleHouse also offers delicious Goldy’s Smokehouse meats, ice cream and Bee Lab honey from the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Science (CFANS). Visit us 9 am to 6 pm daily.

This is a curated celebration of the light that resides within the playful, the small and the spirited. In a world that often feels heavy, this exhibition serves as a sanctuary of illumination — focusing on the literal brightness of the sun-drenched sky and the figurative brightness of the human and animal spirit. Enjoy live music throughout the summer!&nbsp;This year, we welcome new and returning artists to our series, which occurs June through September.&nbsp;Join us every Sunday afternoon from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Music genres will include blues, folk, brass quintets, and orchestra. There's something for everyone. Tonight we welcome the Toreadors Four Tuba Quartet! Rootstock Cafe will be open with food, beer and wine available as well as the Rootstock Ice Cream Cart (weather permitting).&nbsp;The series is included with your general daily admission to the Arboretum, please reserve your admission on the website.

This project is an intergenerational collaboration between Maggie Thompson (Fond du Lac Ojibwe) and her mother, Peggy Thompson. Their work brings together weaving, painting and shared observation of land. Using the grounds of the Arboretum as their common point of reference, they explore how two distinct visual languages – Ojibwe floral design and painterly depictions of ground – interpret the same environment.&nbsp;&nbsp;Maggie created woven textile works using ribbon and beads to create Ojibwe florals, inspired by flowers growing in and around the Arboretum, while her mother painted a series focused on the ground, dirt and earth found at the Arboretum. Rather than depicting flowers directly, her work centers the soil that sustains them, emphasizing texture and a mother’s role as nurturer. Her paintings function as both physical and conceptual foundations for Maggie’s woven and beaded pieces. Visit the website for ticketing details.

Each week there will be a theme which will result in following instructor-led guided art and then adding your own personal artist spice to it using a variety of art media.Some examples from the past have been a guided drawing of an endangered animal with students' individual ideas of the landscape that animal might live in. The landscape ideas are formed using the Socratic Method of asking them questions that do not necessarily have to be answered out loud- but can be. Just letting those questions bounce around your head will help ideas form and get curated. In addition to learning art techniques and expression, students gain knowledge about the theme through fun facts, and games.

i9 Sports South Metro Minneapolis is a locally owned youth sports organization serving families throughout Bloomington, Burnsville, Apple Valley, Savage, Prior Lake, Shakopee, Lakeville, Jordan, St. Paul, New Prague, and surrounding cities. The organization provides recreational league play for boys and girls ages 3–14, focusing on building confidence, character, and teamwork within the local community.
