The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW), Colonel Colvill Camp 56 will be dedicating over 150 new footstones for Civil War soldiers who have been in unmarked graves for decades. Join us in honoring these veterans who served our country during the Civil War.

The ceremony will be at 2:00 on Sunday, September 28th at the Lakewood Cemetery, 3600 Hennepin Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN in the GAR section by the statue and cannon.

Camp #56 will be in Civil War uniforms presiding over the ceremony using the 1870s Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) program. One descendant said: My family is still talking about what we experienced. It was as if we were at my Great-Grandfather’s ceremony that he never had. In addition to members of SUVCW Camp 56 and Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, reenactors from the 1st Minnesota Infantry, Ladies of the GAR, Living History Society, President Lincoln, the GAR Deputy Adjutant General, a Weeping Widow and many others will be there.

The soldiers whose footstones will be dedicated are those whose name starts with a C through G at this link: www.lakewoodcemetery.org/event/civil-war-marker-dedication-ceremony/ Descendants are most cordially invited to attend as special guests.

Consider bringing a lawn chair to this event.

After the ceremony there will be a tour of graves of 1st and 2nd Minnesota Infantry soldiers interred at the Lakewood Cemetery.
