On behalf of the MRPA, Aimee Peterson presented Community Center Manager Valerie Verley and Recreation Services Manager Lori Brink with awards of excellence for the Community Center's new Virtual Membership and the Boo Drive-Thru event. Both programs were introduced in 2020 in response to the pandemic.

The Community Center Virtual Membership was launched in early November, just ahead of the second statewide shutdown due to COVID-19, and offers a wide range of live and on-demand fitness classes. Although the Community Center facilities are now open for use, members are now able to participate in fitness classes anywhere there is internet access. The success of the Virtual Membership and positive feedback from users ensure it will continue to be a membership option.

In place of the Halloween on the Mall event, which attracts hundreds of participants each year at Eden Prairie Center mall, the Parks and Recreation Department designed a new event for families to enjoy a unique, fun and safe Halloween outing in the midst of the pandemic. The Boo Drive-Thru took place at Miller Park and featured a number of in-car activities around the park, as well as a trick-or-treating zone where local businesses and organizations set up drive-by booths, and delivered treats to participants through their car windows.

While many drive-in and drive-through events took place in 2020 due to the pandemic, the Boo Drive-Thru stands out because of the high level of participation from various Eden Prairie organizations and businesses. From financial contributions to staffing the event and donating treats and other giveaways, our community truly came together to help make Halloween special for local youth.
