Eden Prairie Boys Advance to State AAAA Basketball Semifinal
The Eagles beat Woodbury 70-59 Wednesday.

Eden Prairie faced a tight first half in the quarterfinals of Wednesday’s Class AAAA State Basketball Tournament, but the Eagles pulled ahead in the second to beat Woodbury 70-59.
The No. 5-ranked Eagles were up by five 33-28 at the end of the first half. It would’ve been even closer if the Royals hadn’t shot a paltry 32 percent compared to Eden Prairie’s 48 percent.
The first part of the second half was just as hard fought, and No. 4-ranked Woodbury was able to cut the deficit to four with about eight minutes remaining in the second. Yet the Eagles took control in the final minutes.

Eden Prairie Junior Andre Wallace led the game with 20 points. Junior Alex Ihrke had 17, and senior Grant Shaeffer had 15. Meanwhile, senior Jack Cottrell snagged 14 rebounds.
Eden Prairie will next play top-ranked Apple Valley in the semifinals at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
