Fall on the Prairie

When everything turns red and gold

It has been said that Minnesota goes straight from summer into winter, I have not found this to be true. Having recently moved here from Connecticut, where arguably the fall foliage is the most spectacular in the country, we have had our senses assaulted but the beauty of Fall

Whether it is the pumpkin patches on the way up to Waconia or the golden light along the trails, the colors and grandeur of autumn are everywhere. Sometimes Nature provides such a magnificent backdrop to our daily activities, it almost becomes almost mandatory to stop and inhale the beauty of it all. Fallen leaves are like jewels and the deep, dark blue of the lakes are the perfect backdrop. Orange pumpkins decorate front porches and the trees compete with each other in blasts of red and gold.

We have not blown the leaves off our lawn yet - it seems a shame to break up the saffron colored carpet under the trees. Very soon the lakes will start to freeze and the last leaves will leave the trees - and all the color will be gone. When everything is all white and still - we we will warm ourselves by the fire and warm our hearts with the promise of summer.
