Fire Scare Prompts Emergency Landing at Flying Cloud Airport

The pilot was flying between Duluth and Mankato.

A smoke-filled cockpit forced a pilot to land at Flying Cloud Airport last week, according to Police Department reports.

A 51-year-old Duluth man was flying between Duluth and Mankato 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Jan. 8 when he noticed smoke in the cockpit of a rented Cessna Skyhawk II.

The man, who was the sole occupant of the plane, landed safely. There were no signs of damage or fire.
