Meet the One-Act Play Director: Stephen Houtz

Editor's Note: The Eden Prairie Players are in the midst of mounting their eighth production of A Collection of One Acts. Patch will publish a profile on one of the six participating directors every day this week. Today's featured one-act director is Stephen Houtz, who responded to our questions via email. He is directing the play "In The Yichud Room" by Joel Fishbane.

Eden Prairie Patch: Why did you choose this play? 

Houtz: I liked the abstract way that the author presented his story. It is theatrical in ways that traditional narrative is not, and allowed us to engage the audience in the story in a theatrical way.

Eden Prairie Patch: What was your greatest challenge as a one-act director?

Houtz: The scheduling!

Eden Prairie Patch: What was the most rewarding aspect of directing this show?

Houtz: Working with the great cast I had to work with. With a smaller cast, you can explore more.

Eden Prairie Patch: What should audiences expect from your production?

Houtz: To laugh, and to ultimately be moved.
