Local Company Issues Recall on Step Stools

Eden Prairie-based Tricam Industries Inc. issued a recall of roughly 84,000 step stools Friday, stating the top step, or standing platform, has the potential to break and poses a falling hazard.

The Easy Reach by Gorilla Ladders 3-Step Pro Series Step Stools were imported by the company from China and sold exclusively at Home Depot from April through August 2012, according to an Associated Press release.

The step stools have three plastic steps, a steel tubular frame and a plastic-molded tool holder. The model number is located on the underside of the middle step on a blue label and have a "J'' stamped into the underside of the top step and/or the underside of the tool holder.

According to the AP release, the company has received five reports of the platform breaking, one of which included a report of the consumer sustaining scrapes and abrasions.

Local Firm a Finalist for Funding at Cleantech Open

Eden Prairie-based IrriGreen, a landscape-irrigation business, is one of three finalists in the North Central Region of the Cleantech Open business-accelerator program.

According to the Star Tribune, the company's claim to fame is its use of digital technology to cut installation time and water use in half.

The company will compete next month for $250,000 worth of cash and in-kind services at the Cleantech Global Forum in California. There were 20 finalists in total.

General Electric's Control Center Receives Prestigious Award

The GE Capital Fleet Services' U.S. maintenance control center was certified as a Center of Excellence by BenchmarkPortal.

According to 4-traders.com, the Center of Excellence recognition is one of the most prestigious awards in the service and support industry.

The center received the award for its demonstration of superior performance on both cost-related and quality-related metrics when compared with its industry peers.

Public Library Featured in Sustainable Architecture Publication.

After *Lunds closed its doors in Eden Prairie, Hennepin County seized the opportunity to transform the enormous space into a beautiful library.

A recent article on Inhabitat.com, a site that features sustainable design innovation, eco-architecture and green building, praised the concept, saying the layout offered an ideal space for the county's book collection.

The original arched ceiling was revamped with a geometric pattern and the giant glass skylight that faces the parking lot, acts as a natural light source.
