Street Sweeper Follows Fleeing Drunken Driver

Street sweepers aren’t exactly known as crime fighters—but that’s exactly what Street Division Lead Worker John Hobbs was April 29.

Hobbs was sweeping the streets near Eden Prairie Center when he saw a vehicle fail to yield, hit another vehicle and leave the scene, according to a Tuesday Police Department blog post.

Hobbs notified dispatch and followed the driver until the driver pulled into a parking lot about three-quarters of a mile from the crash. He then stayed with the driver until officers arrived.

Police determined that the driver had been drinking, and prosecutors charged him with misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor charges.
