1. Fear, frustration and calls for action: Edina leaders confront growing group violence (kstp.com) — Edina leaders, residents, and law enforcement packed a town hall at City Hall to confront rising group violence tied to recent shootings at Yancey Park and near Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Speakers debated causes, language, and safety steps like better park lighting, while city officials pledged ongoing meetings and continued feedback through an online portal.
2. Edina shifts gun violence meeting from online to City Hall (fox9.com) — Edina residents now have the chance to attend tonight's gun violence meeting in person at City Hall at 5:30 p.m., with space for about 200 people and an online stream. The discussion will focus on recent shootings at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and Yancey Park, and include a presentation plus time for community questions and comments.
3. Hopkins resident behind horror short featured in Twin Cities Film Festival (hometownsource.com) — Edina moviegoers can catch a locally made horror short, "To Have and To Hold," during the Twin Cities Film Fest at the Edina Mann 4 Theatre from Oct. 15-24. Directed by Hopkins resident Vanessa M. H. Powers, the film explores alcoholism and abuse through a possession story and screens alongside eight other horror shorts, with filmmakers attending for a post-show Q&A.
4. Amazon asks Minnesota justices to extinguish $4 million battery fire suit (courthousenews.com) — A major Minnesota Supreme Court case over a 2018 Edina building fire could decide whether Amazon is treated like a traditional retailer when defective products cause damage. Berkley Regional Insurance, which paid nearly $4 million after a phone battery fire in Edina, argues Amazon should share strict liability when overseas third-party sellers can't be held accountable.
