EDINA, MN — A resident's call to 911 about someone checking car door handles led Edina police to a man investigators now connect to a string of burglaries in the city.
Earlier this week, the caller reported a suspicious person trying vehicle doors near the Edina and St. Louis Park border.
Responding officers found a 35-year-old man riding an e-bike that matched the description of one reported stolen from a home on Brookview Avenue on Oct. 11, according to police.
That e-bike gave investigators the link they needed to tie the man to an ongoing burglary case involving several homes and vehicles.
The man was arrested, and some of the stolen property has been recovered and returned to its owners, police said.
The department credited the resident who called 911, along with several neighbors who sent in surveillance footage of suspicious activity in the area, and the investigative work of its officers.
Police said the arrest shows why it matters for neighbors to watch out for one another, and they encouraged anyone who sees something suspicious to call 911 right away.
With colder weather on the way, the department also reminded residents of its Lock Around the Clock message: lock vehicles, garage doors and home entrances, even when someone is home, and keep valuables out of sight.
