Fridley High School Diploma Programme (DP) Visual Art students were awarded an impressive 20 Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards (1 Gold Key Portfolio, 7 Gold Key, 6 Silver Key, and 6 Honorable Mentions). In addition, a Fridley Middle School seventh grader received 2 Gold Key awards and 3 Honorable Mentions! All Gold Key works will continue on to the National Scholastic Art Competition in New York City with a reception at Carnegie Hall. National winners will be announced in May 2013.
Students who received a Gold Key award will have their winning pieces exhibited at the College of Visual Arts Gallery at 173 Western Avenue North in Saint Paul from February 7 to March 3, 2013. Silver Key and Honorable Mentions will be on display digitally. All the winners will receive their wards and recognition during an awards ceremony scheduled for Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Minnesota History Center.
The Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards is the highest art recognition for students in grades 7-12. This year the contest received 1,849 individual artwork entries and 170 portfolio entries. The jury awarded 183 Gold Keys, 186 Silver Keys and 340 Honorable Mention Merit Awards for individual entries, and 17 Gold Key, 13 Silver Keys Awards and 27 Honorable Mention Portfolio Merit Awards for portfolio entries.
