Boat Launch at Riverfront Regional Park in Fridley to Reopen Monday

High water, swift current on Mississippi River prompted May 29 closure.

The boat launch at Riverfront Regional Park in Fridley will reopen Monday, two weeks after Anoka County Parks closed access to the launch due to high water and fast current. According to an announcement on Twitter at 8:20 a.m. Monday:

@AnokaCounty will reopen the Riverfront and Mississippi West boat launches today. Coon Rapids Dam remains closed until safety buoys placed.

The county said on May 29 that the closure at Riverfront Regional Park and at two other boat launches was in response to a rapidly rising and swiftly moving river, and that the closures would be temporary.

The Riverfront Park launch was the last to be closed May 29, according to an Anoka County tweet. At 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Anoka County Parks officials were still monitoring Riverfront Park. An hour later came the announcement that Riverfront's launch too was closed.

At least one boater changed plans after hearing about the Riverfront Park closure.

Construction continues in the park along East River Road.

The Mississippi River's rise after recent rains prompted the along much of its length in the greater Twin Cities area. As of Monday, the NWS was predicting no significant flooding (not including flash flooding) in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has increased enforcement of regulations meant to stop boaters from transporting invasive species. .
