Analyzing Anoka County Senate Districts on Proposed Redistricting Map

With a proposed redistricting map's release, Anoka County Senate Districts are analyzed.

While the Congressional District proposed map has not been released (it has been promised before the end of session on May 23), the Minnesota Legislature released their first attempt to pass a redistricting map for Senate and House Districts.

Democrats are very upset that their strongholds in Minneapolis and St. Paul have been consolidated which will cause incumbents to have to run against each other.

There isn’t much the Republicans can do about that as population has been fleeing Minneapolis and St. Paul for GOP strongholds for the last 10 years.

One could argue that if the Democrats who almost completely run Minneapolis and St. Paul ran their cities better they wouldn’t be losing so many strongholds. They only have themselves to blame for their mismanagement of our two largest cities in the state.

The proposed map, which will be voted on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, shows great respect to Anoka County.

Ten years ago the Democrats were quite abusive when they drew the lines slicing up small cities (such as Fridley) into three parts, lumping Coon Rapids (which was also sliced into three) in with Brooklyn Park to ensure that district could never go GOP and in current Senate District 50 they created an inexplicable “U” shaped senate district which put two different counties together in order to eliminate a swing area in the New Brighton/Shoreview area.

A complete analysis was done on all of the proposed Senate Districts in Anoka County here.
