Although "The Crucible" is set during the Salem Witch Trials in the early 1690s in Salem, Massachusetts, it addresses broader issues. Arthur Miller wrote the play in the 1950s as an allegory in protest to McCarthyism - the practice of blacklisting suspected communists.
The play continues to speak to audiences today and powerfully portrays warnings to us in the 21st century.
