Planting Time in Fridley
The last average day of frost has arrived which means it's probably safe to plant your garden. Since my garden prep wasn't complete I ended up spending the day moving black dirt instead.

Seed packets will often have wording like “Transplant after risk of frost has passed” or “Direct sow after last frost.” Well, it’s probably that time now! May 21st marks the last average frost date each Spring, in the Twin Cities. So go check the forecast and ask yourself if you feel like it’s a warmer than average year, and then get planting! Weather.gov says that Fridley’s low for the next seven days will be 42 degrees, and I know I'm feeling lucky.
I had every intention of planting today, but the rain and work have conspired to make me a day behind. Two weeks ago I got 12 cubic yards of a black dirt/composted manure mix delivered to my driveway, and I have been wheelbarrowing it around the yard load by load. Today I finally finished, but much too late in the day to start on and enjoy planting. Instead I started working on a new firepit for the yard.
Head on over to the Fridley Farmer to read the rest of today's Fridley Farmer post, where I dig out a cemented laundry pole stand, break my wheelbarrow and make good headway on a new firepit.
