Edina Realty Realtors Deliver Backpacks and School Supplies to Crest View Elementary School, Brooklyn Park

The First "Backpack Initiative" Was a Success that Edina Realty Hopes to Repeat

Realtors and staff from the Champlin Park office of Edina Realty delivered 48 backpacks and a carload of school supplies for students at Crest View Elementary School in Brooklyn Park on Aug. 31.

With nearly 400 students in grades K-6, Crest View Elementary is home to students from low-income homes whose families may not be able to purchase their school supplies. About 80 percent of students also receive free or reduced fee lunches.

Sue Walker, an Edina Realty agent in the Champlin Park office, said she’s heard of instances where teachers used their own money to buy supplies for students in need, which is why she came up with what’s now being called the ‘Backpack Initiative.’ It’s an initiative they hope to repeat.

“The principal and teachers were thrilled beyond belief,” Walker said when they delivered the supplies. “We had so much fun and feel it’s just a start on what the ‘backpack’ initiative can become.”
