Former Fridley Ambassador Leah Kruc Named Mpls. Aquatennial Princess

She is one of two to hold that title, serving alongside a new Queen of the Lakes.

A former Fridley Ambassador is now a Minneapolis Aquatennial Princess.

Leah Kruc was crowned as one of two princesses for the annual summer festival at a Friday night ceremony, according to an event announcement. Anna Surprenant, the former Miss Sleepy Eye 2011, is the other princess. Carly Smith, former Red Wing Ambassador, is 2013 Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes.

Kruc is currently studying biomedical engineering at the University of Minnesota and hopes to continue on to become a medical student there as well. She works part-time as a personal care assistant for clients with physical and mental handicaps helping them complete daily routine tasks.

Leah has earned several prestigious scholarships for her academics and extra-curricular involvement. In her free time, Leah enjoys playing golf, dancing and working with Acts of Fellowship and the Anoka County 4-H. She also volunteers for Habitat for Humanity and Feed My Starving Children, teaches vacation bible school and enjoys baking.

Kruc hopes to complete her residency at the University and become a practicing pediatrician. Her dream job would be working with ‘Doctors Without Borders’ to utilize her skills to help the global population.

Kruc was picked from quite a crowd, the announcement said:

A tradition dating back more than seven decades, the Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes Scholarship Program is lead by the Aquatennial Ambassador Organization, attracting nearly 50 women from all over Minnesota as they compete for scholarships and the Aquatennial ambassador titles.
