Fridley Felon Pleads Guilty to Carrying Ammo

Raphael Eric Matthews faces 10 years for having bullets in his jacket.

A Fridley resident entered a guilty plea Thursday and now faces a possible prison term of as long as 10 years for carrying ammunition on his person despite his status as a convicted felon, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney for Minnesota.

Raphael Eric Matthews, 22, admitted to having "multiple nine-millimeter, hollow-point bullets" in his jacket when the vehicle he was riding in was pulled over for a traffic violation in January 2013, the release said.

Federal law says felons can't carry bullets. Matthews' sentence will be determined at a hearing that hasn't yet been scheduled.
