Multi-vehicle Crash on I-694 River Bridge Ties Up Traffic

A pileup of cars took place Saturday morning on the I-694 Mississippi River bridge just west of East River Road NE in Fridley, according to news reports.

Between 12 and 25 vehicles were involved, according to the Star Tribune, which put the time of the incident at about 8:35 a.m.

KSTP reported that as many as six separate crashes sent several people with minor injuries to North Memorial Hospital in ambulances.

The freeway's westbound lanes were briefly closed, the Star Tribune said.

Traffic was at one point backed up as far as a mile, according to WCCO-AM.
