Mom, 5-Year-Old Son Found Dead In Suburban Home; Man In Custody: Reports

LEXINGTON, MN — A woman and a young boy were killed overnight in the north suburb of Lexington, according to police, who said a man was in custody in connection with the deaths.

Numerous law enforcement agencies responded shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday to a home near the 9300 block of Ryan Place for a reported shooting, police said.

When they arrived, they found a dead woman and a boy who was gravely injured in the home, according to police, who said the boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was declared deceased.

Authorities did not immediately name the victims, but Missy Bolling, the deceased woman’s first cousin, identified those killed as Jennifer Marsaw, 44, and her son, 5-year-old Marzai Dawson, according to The Minnesota Star Tribune.

Authorities worked with a K-9 to search the area around the home and apprehend a man, who was taken into custody and brought to a hospital for treatment, according to police.

“This incident does not appear to be random and there is no known threat to the public,” the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
