PHOTOS: Fridley Fire Dept. Gives Aid at Coon Rapids Townhouse Blaze

Fridley was among five other departments sending crews to general alarm fire.

A resident jumped to safety to escape flames that caused significant damage to a townhome in Blaine Friday. The Fridley Fire Department was one of five other fire departments that helped Coon Rapids battle the blaze. 

According to Twin Cities Fire Wire's report: 

While enroute, Coon Rapids Acting Captin Jim Ktytor reported a large column of smoke and requested mutual-aid companies. Fire Crews from Andover, Anoka-Champlin and Fridley fire departments responded to the scene. ...

Andover, Anoka-Champlin and Fridley crews provided assistance to Coon Rapids extinguishing hot spots and performing overhaul and ventilation operations.

The cause of the fire was a "cigarette in a potted plant in the garage," the report quoted Coon Rapids Fire Chief John Piper as saying.
